George Broufas is a Professor of Entomology and Agricultural Zoology, the Head of the Laboratory of Agricultural Zoology & Entomology and the Head of the postgraduate studies program of the Department of Agricultural Development at Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH). He also serves as an adjunct Professor at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICH) where he teaches Integrated Pest Management. He is an active member of the International Organisation for Biological Control (IOBC) and the Convenor of the WG ‘Integrated Control of Plant-Feeding Mites’. He has a first degree in Agricultural Sciences (Crop Production) and a PhD in Entomology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). He has performed postdoctoral research at the University of Amsterdam. His research focuses on crop protection, biological control, ecology and integrated pest management. His publication record includes 42 publications in peer-reviewed journals with an h-index=14 (Scopus) and >600 citations. He currently supervises 4 PhD students and has supervised more than 50 undergraduate and 15 postgraduate students. He has coordinated/participated in 12 projects funded by the EU, International and national bodies (OECD, DAAD, GSRT-Greece, Ministry of Education, COST, PRIMA) and 45 projects funded by the industry. He has served as Guest Editor in Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution, Sustainability and in Frontiers in Plant Science.
