Dr Meriem Msaad Guerfali is Assistant Prof. in Entomology at the laboratory of Biotechnology and Nuclear Technologies LR16CNSTN01 at the National Centre of Nuclear Sciences and Technologies (CNSTN). Her main research interests are in Integrated pest management (SIT, and related techniques) and insect-microbe symbioses. She has participated in many IPM projects especially against Medfly (Ceratitis capitata) and was PI of IAEA projects (TC 5020 and TC 5021) to suppress the medfly using Sterile Insect Technique in Tunisia and TC-IAEA, RAF 5074 project “Enhancing Capacity for Detection, Surveillance and Suppression of Exotic and Established Fruit Fly Species through Integration of Sterile Insect Technique with Other Suppression Methods”. She was in charge of the implementation of the pilot medfly mass rearing facility of an approximate capacity of 12 million sterile medfly male per week. Also she was involved in bilateral Tunisian-Spanish research project such as A026050/09 « Detection of the resistance to the malathion of the tunisian wild populations of Ceratitis capitata and Tunisian-Marrocan research project CMPTM 78/MT/08 «Recherche sur la compatibilité et la compétitivité de la souche sauvage marocaine et de la souche Vienna 8 ». She was participating in different national research programs such as VRR (Valorisation des résultats de la Recherche) 04‐02 « Control of the medfly by application of the SIT» and recently, PRF 2019-D6P2 “Gestion intégrée contre la Cératite pour la promotion d’une agriculture durable”.
